Cellar for up to 9 years The Produttori Vini Manduria is one of Puglia’s most famous producers of Primitivo with nearly a century of experience of working with the variety. The cooperative was founded in 1928 and today has 400 member growers with a total of 900 hectares of vines between them. Membership of the cooperative is passed down from the parents to the children, and the small landholdings of each member means that their vines are tended with great care and attention. This Primitivo dessert wine is a traditional local product made from 50 year old vines, many of which were planted as untrained bush vines. The hot, arid conditions of the region help to produce intensely concentrated grapes high in sugar and flavour which in turn produce sweet and luscious dessert wines. To preserve the pure character of the variety and plenty of freshness to balance the sweetness, the young wine is aged in stainless steel tanks before bottling. Dates, dried figs, ripe plums and blueberries define the nose while on the palate there’s a rich, full body, gentle tannins and an intense sweetness which lingers on the palate. The intensity of the flavour profile makes this a great partner for rich desserts like chocolate puddings, berry cheesecakes or even blue cheeses.
