This inviting Cotes du Rhone opens with seductive aromas of blackcurrants, dark cherries and violets, while the palate displays intense hints of crushed wild berries and sweet spices. The first sip reveals a full body, smooth tannins and pleasant freshness which provides perfect balance to the rich fruit character. Try combining this bottling with barbecued red meats, sausages or a generous platter of charcuterie to match the intense flavour profile and fruitiness. The Mordoree estate takes its name from the humble woodcock which used to be found in abundance in the southern Rhone Valley, but today is considered an endangered species. The domaine was founded in 1986 by Francis Delorme and his son Christophe and is today run by Christophe’s wife and daughter along with other members of the family. In keeping with the name of the winery, the family seek to farm their land in a way that respects the natural environment. All of their vines are farmed organically and the family also applies biodynamic practices in the vineyard and in the winery. As well as striving to make the best possible wines from their well-situated vineyards, the family also takes a long-term view and seeks to hand over the estate to the next generations in the best possible condition.
