Drink now through to 2028. No need to decant before serving. This unique project was founded in 1981 by two psychiatrists who also happened to have a passion for wine. The name “Folie a Deux” or “madness for two” is a reference to a psychiatric syndrome where two people share a common delusional belief. For these wine-loving psychiatrists, that belief was the idea of setting up their very own winery in California’s highly-competitive Sonoma County. Over the past few decades the winery has flourished and now produces a variety of wines from most of Sonoma’s finest appellations. This punchy Zinfandel is made in a classic Californian style with fruit sourced from Sonoma’s Dry Creek Valley. Here the vines enjoy hot sunny summer days which are moderated by cooling fog from the nearby Pacific Ocean. These conditions help to produce rich, jammy fruit which is carefully balanced by freshness and aromatics. On the nose there are powerful notes of cassis, blackberry and black cherry, while the first sip reveals a robust full body, firm tannins and well-built structure. On the palate there are intense dark berry flavours along with hints of baking spice, woodsmoke and toast from the maturation in French and American oak barrels.
