Aromas of crushed red berries, leather and sweet spices immediately leap out of the glass while the palate offers dark cherries, cloves and sage along with a silky smooth texture. The finely balanced tannins and fresh acidity combine perfectly with traditional dishes from Romagna like tortellini stuffed with aromatic herbs, piadina with porchetta, or seasonal game. This delicious Nicolucci wine is a single varietal Sangiovese, the classic grape of the Romagna wine region in Northeastern Italy. Winemaker Alessandro Nicolucci works hard on his family’s land to create wines that are a tribute both the unique terroir and the long viticultural legacy of this region. He carefully ages his red wines in oak barrels to give a delicate touch of extra complexity without overwhelming the natural character of the Sangiovese grape. His family have been making wine on the Nicolucci estate for four generations since Alessandro’s great-grandfather Giuseppe began the operation in 1895. The estate is located in Predappio Alta which has long been renowned for exceptional Sangiovese wines and was already subject to strict rules to ensure the production of the best possible grapes as far back as 1383.
