Ideally drink now to 2024. Decant 1-2 hours, best served at 16-18°C Deep ruby to dark eggplant, the complexity of this wine is immediately evident. Shades of magenta and purple allude to aromas of black cherry and overripe blueberries. The palate continues with rich black berry fruit, in conjunction with bitter chocolate and a nice finish of black pepper. Dark and brooding, this red blend has a full medium body and smooth tannins, creating harmony between the fruit and spice. This wine yearns for dishes as complex as it is. Pair with heavily spiced red meats like pepper crusted steak, or gamey meat stews with mushrooms, or allow flavors of chocolate to be drawn out by a dessert course of cheeses. An even blend of Merlot, Nebbiolo, Tempranillo, and the indigenous Croatian grape, Teran, this interesting cuvee comes from the Benvenuti family vineyard of Santa Elizabeta, located on hillsides outside of Kaldir at 350m above sea level. High altitude and stabilized coastal climate from the nearby Adriatic Sea results in full expression of fruit, while sustainable wine making practices and careful care is shown in the award winning blend produced here (Decanter Silver Medal, Vinistra Gold Medal). Twelve months in oak barrels has added nice notes of vanilla and cocoa. Expect greater richness of chocolate to coffee, vanilla to coconut expression the longer this Caldierosso is in your cellar.
