Cellar for up to 14 years. No need to decant before serving. Tenuta di Biserno was discovered by Marchese Lodovico Antinori, the renowned founder of Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, in 1995. Lodovico was immediately smitten by the rugged landscape of this corner of Bolgheri with its pine forests, hilltop castles and cooling breezes from the nearby coast. He had been looking for top quality land to extend Ornellaia’s vineyard holdings, but he soon realised that this hilly and stony area would be perfect for a brand-new project. The estate’s 49 acres are primarily planted with Bordeaux varietals including Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Their Il Pino red blend is led by Cabernet Franc along with support from the other three varieties to add complexity and tannic structure. The wine is aged in oak for a year and 6-8 months in the bottle before release. On the nose seductive cassis, wild berries and plum notes dominate along with undertones of spice, dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans. The first sip reveals a distinctive elegance with silky tannins, a smooth texture, and a punchy full body. The power and intensity of the flavour profile makes this a great partner for red meat dishes including sirloin steak, barbecued ribs or hearty stews.
