While he is best known as the director of countless classic films, including the Godfather trilogy, Francis Ford Coppola also holds a significant stake in the world of wine. In 2006, he purchased the Chateau Souverain property in Sonoma County and founded the Francis Ford Coppola Winery, which has been producing hits ever since. Francis Ford Coppola is something of a wine connoisseur, having collected wine for the last 30 years. With the Diamond Collection, the goal is to create something for every occasion, whilst drawing grapes from vineyards all across California and Oregon. The winery itself is also designed to be a point of convergence - a place where people of all ages can come to relax and eat, while the adults enjoy a marvellous selection of Californian wine. This is a unique Cabernet Sauvignon blend, featuring portions of Petit Verdot and the robust Ségalin. On the nose, there are characteristic scents of dark cherry and vanilla. The blend spent a year ageing in French oak barriques, which left behind a whiff of toasted oak. In the mouth, flavours of ripe red fruits take the lead. Cherry and raspberry jam mingle with nuances of caramel and vanilla bean. It is a treat and should be accompanied by something equally delicious. Pair it with a juicy ribeye steak, or an umami mushroom dish.
