Stag’s Leap is easily one of California’s most famous wineries thanks to Warren Winiarski, the winemaker behind the estate’s 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon which was awarded first place at the Judgement of Paris wine tasting. During a blind tasting his wine was voted first place ahead of many top Bordeaux wines including Chateau Haut-Brion and Chateau Mouton-Rothschild. This pivotal moment helped put Napa Valley on the map for world-class wines and cemented Stag’s Leap’s place in wine history. This exceptional cuvee is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes that are sourced from the SLV vineyard, known for producing some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in the region. They grow on well-drained soils that are rich in volcanic minerals which contribute to the wine's unique flavor profile. After vinification the young wine is aged in French oak barrels for 20 months which adds to its complexity and depth. Ideal for lovers of bold, serious Cabernets, this robust red offers intense aromas of black fruits, tobacco, and dark chocolate on the nose. On the palate it is full-bodied and complex with flavors of black currant, blackberry, and a touch of spice. Expect a long and velvety finish with well-structured tannins and a perfect balance of acidity that makes it a great match for hearty red meat dishes.
