Badel 1862 Korlat Supreme Merlot 2012
Gyártó: Badel 1862
Drink now through to 2028. Decant 1 hour before serving. In 2004 the renowned Benkovac estate in central Dalmatia began a new project with the planting of their Korlat vineyards on rocky terrain a short drive from the winery. The vines grown on this plot produce Benkovac’s Korlat Supreme wines which are served in many of Croatia’s finest restaurants and resorts. Korlat is predominantly planted with Bordeaux varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc which thrive in the tough conditions. Although the site enjoys plenty of sunshine, the constant presence of wind and the dry stony soil helps to put pressure on the vines and ensures they produce remarkably concentrated and intensely-flavoured grapes. The Korlat Supreme Merlot is distinguished by its elegance and freshness which combine harmoniously with the rich dark fruit character the variety is known for. On the nose there are inviting notes of spiced plums, blackberries, and cinnamon while the first sip reveals a full body, smooth tannins, intense dark berry flavours, and a bright streak of acidity. The firm structure and bold fruit in this wine make it an excellent partner for red meats in dishes like steak and frites, beef bourguignon, or rigatoni served with a rich ragu sauce.
