Giuseppe Quintarelli is one of the most famous winemakers on the planet thanks to his masterful Amarone wines which are made according to time-honoured traditional techniques. In the winery he practiced “appassimento” or drying out of the grapes over the winter to concentrate their flavours and aromas as well as very long periods of ageing in large Slavonian oak casks. As well as their remarkable red wines, Quintarelli also produces this stunning white wine which is an unusual field blend of local grapes Garganega and Trebbiano and Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. To highlight the character of the fruit, the wine is vinified and matured in stainless steel tanks and then left to mature on the lees to add extra complexity. Fresh peach, apricots and bitter almonds characterise the nose while the first sip shows off the wine’s rich, creamy texture and ripe stone fruit flavours which are carefully balanced by a bright streak of acidity. This lively white is a great wine to sip on a hot summer’s day as an elegant aperitif or to enjoy with a wide variety of dishes including seafood, pan-fried salmon steaks, or roast chicken served with herby root vegetables.
